Babycham History
Babycham is a sparkling perry.
It was first produced in 1953 by Francis Showering, a Somerset, UK brewer.
In 1957 it became the first alcoholic beverage to be advertised on British television, with a campaign directed at women.
It was highly popular during the 1960s and 1970s and the drink’s deer logo became well-recognised.
The beverage is currently owned by Constellation Europe Limited and is still produced in Somerset.
Vintage Babycham glasses
Vintage Babycham glasses were produced in the 50s, 60s and 70s, often in boxes of six or four. They featured the drink’s deer logo on the main body of the vessel, and the “Babycham” name on the base.
The styling of the deer on the glassware and boxes changed during the decade's: Mainly to boost sale's, that we now call "Re-Branding"
The 50’s glasses featured a white deer. (also refered to as Bambi or Fawn)
wearing his trademark bow and is in a standing position. The stem is hexagonal and there is a dark blue Babycham logo on the base.
The 60’s glasses depicted a golden brown deer, In the early sixties there is still a hexagonal stem but this then changes to a rounded stem in the mid/late 60s.while the ubiquitous 70’s deer version was yellow & the fawn is facing the other way in a prancing position
