Antique Solid Silver Pocket Watch - D F and C - 1800s - in Full Working Order.

Case : Solid Silver with continental hallmarks and 0800 present indicating the purity of the silver used. Case is in excellent condition showing little signs of any wear and tear. All closures snap shut, are tight and secure. Press the top button down, and the rear cover springs open nicely to reveal the winding and watch setting apertures. Inside of the rear cover seen DF & C with serial number present of 24192. Lovely pattern to the case and bezel and having a blank car touche.

Bow Assembly : in good condition with the bow being secure.

Crystal : is clear, original and having a few surface scratches present.

Dial : is in MINT condition and is free from hairline cracks with no chipping to the edge of the dial. Dial is white in colour with black Roman Numerals and sub second dial present. All hands are present and are in good with both hands being of a blue steel in colour.

Movement : cylinder movement running the full length of the wind and keeping good time, +/- 3minutes a day or better with the watch having been fully serviced. The balance has a good working action in all positions. The gilding remains in good order, but does have a few light patches present. On the movement can be seen DF & C. Watch is key set and wound, of which both operations are performed as expected, a replacement key is supplied.

A bit of history -
The two sons of Antoine Dimier of Geneva, Charles- Louis (1822-1896) and Auguste-Antoine (1824-1891), formed an association in 1848. The brothers graduated from the Collège de Genève and were then initiated into the art of watchmaking in a factory at Chaux-de- Fonds. About 1846 they set up a business in Fleurier, where Auguste Dimier managed the manufacture of “Chinese” watches while Charles Dimier became the sales director, leaving at about the same time for Canton, where he founded the commercial firm of Dimier & Cie, with a special Chinese trademark pronounced Tien Ye. Business came to a complete halt in 1860 because of the war in China and Charles returned to Switzerland, where in 1862 he and his brother left Fleurier for Geneva."
