Antique double-sided locket with a chased design of a basket of flowers on one side and glass to the other. The glass covers some little fine lines of woven hair. It dates from around 1860/80, when sentimentality ran high, and hair jewellery was used to commemorate loved ones both living and dead, it became so popular that hair could even be bought in haberdashers.
The chasing is very fine, it looks like gold but is pinchbeck and shows no wear. Below the flower basket, is a tiny little shield shaped cartouche, left blank (it shows fine lines where I think the metal has been tested at some time). The glass on the other side is in good condition and the hair is all intact if a bit dusty round the edges. Its on a large, hinged ring.
This is not a locket which opens.
Approx measurements 3cm x 2.5cm not including ring on top (total length approx 4.5cm)
