Margot WERNER-GALOW (1902-1984) was a prolific German artist of some repute. Her work is displayed in many gallery's mainly in Germany. She is known for her pastels. C1920
Unfortunately I have no provenance for this piece. I bought it from somebody who received it from a house clearance in Worcestershire. It's also signed M Galow. I am not sure if she did abbreviate her name to this or if this was a maiden name. I have been unable to find an example of her signature from the time period I belive this was painted and of course when women get married their signatures often change. I have seen other work by her mainly absracts but there are some with faces which have the same haunting eyes which I haven't seen before. It feels like a piece by her but I think there is still a lot of research to be done. This could be quite lucrative for someone with resources and time given her past auction results.
