Designed after the Revival Period, which was also popular in the 1940’s/1950’s - KARU FIFTH AVE was known for these type of designs, they are easily recognized as Karu before even seeing the cartouche signature.
The original chatelaine always contained useful items/charms/fobs worn by Victorian ladies, mostly hanging from their belts or waistbands. This pin is designed with a gun metal chain and Fleur des les pin on one side and a lovely bar pin on the other, the pins and charms/fobs also appear to have a white wash. Chains are worn draped, connected to each pin with 3 puffy hollow charms/fobs dangling from one side. The bar pin has the signed cartouche, “Karu Fifth Avenue”, which is the earlier Karu hallmark, founded in 1940 by Kaufman and Ruderman, NYC, later on in 1954 became Karu Arke. Both pins have roll-over clasps. Bar pin measures approx. ¾ X 2 ¼ inches, fleur des les measures approx. 1 X 1 inches, center chains measure approx. 6 ½ inches from end to end and the longer chain measures approx. 8 ½ inches from end to end, does not included the additional chains hanging from the bar pin or the chains dangling the fobs. We will place some coins in the pictures for estimate of fobs, a heart, repousse flower bouquet and a dangling fob. All hollow. If each pin is hung together at same length, the draped chains hang longer than the charms/fobs and from the top of the pins to the bottom of the chains, it hangs approx. 5 inches long, entire piece weighs 84.2g. The pictures do complete the description, so be sure to view all! The piece is in very good vintage pre-owned condition, shows normal age of jewelry from this era and metal wear - the seams on the fob dangle and flower bouquet have jarred open, but this is very typical and may have even been part of the original manufacturing and never sealed in the first place. As you can see, it is not distracting whatsoever, but only our opinion.
This is a very rare and hard to find piece, sure to attract many second glances! But again, I do leave most of the descriptions up to the pictures, so be sure to view all. Please ask any questions and I will be happy to get back to you as soon as I can!
As a general rule, we leave all vintage and antique jewelry in their current condition since most desire the items to be received in their lovely vintage or antique condition.
