RARE Antique English Fusee Lever Solid Silver Pocket Watch by John Forrest - 1880
In very good condition and working well.
The solid silver case is in very good condition with no significant scratches, dents or staining - it just has a little wear, a few small marks and 1/2 very very small dents. The back has an engine turned design with a vacant cartouche in the middle - all of the engine turning is still there and really crisp. Around the outside of the case is coined edging - all good - push the button down on top of the neck and the back will spring open. On the inside back cover is the lion for 925 silver, an anchor for Birmingham, and a date letter for 1880, also the case makers mark J.M.K. The watch can be wound up at this point with the key supplied, open the front cover and push the button in at the bottom of the dial and the movement will swing open - there is a dust cover on the movement which is in very good condition. The movement looks very clean and it's working - it's key wound and set with a fusee cone which is chain driven with a lever escapement - 4 round pillars which the top plate sits on a patterned balance cock with a ruby end stone and a gold balance wheel. On the movement is London E.C Chronometer maker to the Admiralty and a movement number - push the movement back down and it clicks back into place. The dial is white enamel with black roman numerals and a sub seconds dial at 6 o'clock. At the top is John Forrest London, and it has no chips, hairlines or staining - it's just in great condition. All of the hands are present and they are in very good condition and working well. The key is supplied and you can wind and set the hands - the watch will run the full length of it's wind and keeps good time.
The measurements are 53.1mm in diameter without the neck, and 19.7mm thick with the glass. All of the hinges are in good condition and working well, the glass is also in very good condition with just a few small marks on it.
