Antique Swiss Hallmarked Silver Open Face Pocket Watch. By John Myers & Co - c1880
JOHN MYERS & Co was a mail order business, which was based at Westminster Bridge Road, London. Its advertisements claimed an establishment date of 1817. Information on the early history of the firm is scanty, though in the nineteenth century it was described as a watchmakers and jewellers. Early partners included John Joseph Myers, Henry Myers, and Conrad J. Lippold. In 1884, J. J. Myers left the partnership; and by 1892 Henry Myers was the sole partner. The business was advertised in Sheffield before the First World War. By the 1920s its specialities included silver-plated goods and quality cutlery. It was apparently wound up in 1944.
This lovely Swiss solid silver pocket watch No 175773 has the Swiss High Quality Three Bears Hallmark 0.935 silver, the case Signed - Made in Switzerland for John Myers & Co. 935 & 131 Westminster Bridge Road. London.
It is in very good condition - no dents or scratches, and very little pocket wear. The hinges and catches are good, so the covers open and close perfectly.
The glass is good with some tiny general wear marks. The lovely porcelain dial Signed John Myers & Co. Swiss Made. It is very good condition with no chips, stains or visible hairlines. It has gold spear and whip hands, black Roman numerals with outer minute track and a sub seconds dial at 6- o'clock. The watch measures 50 mm across x 15 mm deep.
It has a Swiss 10 jewel 3/4 plate ten jewel key wind and set movement No --773 with Swiss cylinder escapement and is running very well and keeping very reasonable good time. Comes with Key.
