Antique Victorian Rolled Gold Round Mourning Brooch/Pendant - with original photos
The central aperture measures 3cms in diameter: just enough room to feature a photo of a lost, loved one - in this case, an original picture of a sweet little boy in a Victorian sailor's suit. There is a small gold link through which a fine chain could be threaded and the reverse has a tube-hinge and fastening pin, which fits into the traditional "C"-shaped clasp.
The back of the brooch has what looks like very fine woven hair, which is common in mourning jewellery as a tangible reminder of the deceased.
